How to Build Custom Clinical Note Templates in Yung Sidekick?
Jun 25, 2025
One of the most powerful features in Yung Sidekick is the Custom Note Template builder. Designed for therapists who want more than rigid SOAP or progress note formats, it allows you to create any kind of clinical document tailored to your exact workflow, modality, or style—without writing a single line of code.
What Can You Build?
Whether you’re documenting EMDR sessions, creating Internal Family Systems (IFS) notes, writing supervision summaries, or designing detailed assessment forms, the custom note template tool is flexible enough to handle it all. Some examples include:
A detailed EMDR processing note using the standard eight-phase protocol
An extended SOAP note with trauma-focused care structure
A supervision report with sections for goals, reflection, and insights
A discharge summary with auto-structured fields
An IFS note focused on parts, protectors, and emotional states
How Does It Work?
Templates are built using a natural language prompt system and a section-based constructor:
1. Create a New Template
Navigate to the custom note template section and click “Create New Template.” Name it—e.g., EMDR Processing Note.
2. Set General Preferences
In the general preferences field, describe what the template should do. For instance:
“This note is used to document EMDR sessions. It follows the standard eight-phase protocol and includes trauma processing details like target memory, emotional responses, and SUD/VOC scores. Use clear clinical language.”
3. Add Sections Step by Step
You can add structured prompts for each part of the session. For example:
• Target Memory and Negative Cognition
Prompt: Describe the memory targeted in the session and the associated negative cognition.
• Positive Cognition and VOC
Prompt: What positive belief did the client want to install? What was the VOC score at the beginning and end?
• Desensitization and SUD
Prompt: Describe the desensitization process and SUD changes during the session.
4. Customize Freely
• Drag and drop to rearrange sections
• Make sections static or dynamic
• Delete or add new ones at any time
5. Activate Your Template
Go to Settings > Default Note Template, and assign your new template as the default—either globally or per client.
Flexibility Built In
You can switch templates anytime and even assign different ones to different clients or session types. This ensures your documentation always reflects your clinical voice and workflow.
